Comment requests (#comments4teens)

01/11/2012 4 Comments

The students in Future Science Leaders have been blogging for about a month. They get a bit discouraged at the lack of feedback so we are starting a comment contest where they get points for giving and receiving comments.

I’m also asking you to help them out. Can you please check out the following blogs and give them some feedback? They are new to writing so please be gentle but critique is good. Are they making assumptions? How does their site look? What else would you recommend?

Through the Looking Flask

Dear World…Sincerely Science

 Function of a Rubber Duck

 Mighty Wizards

 Radioactive Lab Rats

 Science Avengers

Budding Scientists* – cool science posts

Torque Force 4* – cool science posts

* These sites are returning students, working on in open online system (notebooks) – they can’t change their theme easily but welcome comments on their writing.

I started commenting on the first blog. How old are its authors (there is no indication in the about page)? It seems quite good for beginners.

The authors are in grade 10 and 11 (14 to 16 years old). I will definitely remind them to fix up their about page. Thanks for the comments!

I posted a comment on the function of a rubber duck blog, re the post A slower speed of light. I pointed out some good things and suggested how to expand the analysis it gave. I also explained how to make a hyperlink in wordpress. I made a blog for my final project for @mcshanahan so it is fresh in my mind. I hope I helped your student(s). By they way I did my midterm project as a review of this blog so I like how everything is connecting nicely! Thanks for doing this Catherine.
